Delta 14" Band Saw, fully operational, complete tear-down and reassembled, Model 880 circa 1944 according to serial number. Similar to the Model 890, but with a gearbox added for the capability of cutting at slower speeds. Run at high speed for wood-cutting, or change the gearbox over to slow speed for metal-cutting or other materials like plastics, rubber, leather, bakelite, phenolic, etc. One v-belt for high-speed and another shorter v-belt for four slower speeds.
It is a survivor, restored to work again as it was original (with a few improvements..). It has an original paint and has not been repainted, except for those parts that were replaced.
I replaced the following items: both tires, blade tension screw and star wheel handle, blade guide bearings (upper and lower), upper wheel guard pan, removable table stop rod, table alignment pin, wooden blade guard, all power wiring, power ON/OFF switch, 1/2 hp ac motor (Rockwell, used, 1982), motor bearings, upper wheel bearings, lower wheel bearings, flip-top Gits oil fill/gauge, and two blades (fine-tooth for metal and 6TPI wood)
Added an LED work-light, a brush holder for the lower wheel tire, and a dust collection port (suction at the lower wheel tire/blade area). The table has a miter gauge slot so I am also including a miter gauge with the band saw. I added a lanyard to retain the table alignment pin and another lanyard for the removable table stop rod.
The gear box and lower drive assembly was disassembled, all parts cleaned, visually inspected (no damage or wear found), re-seal the gearbox, and filled with heavy-duty 90W gear oil (1-1/2 quart capacity).
The belt guard is a custom-made two-piece, wood enclosure, with a belt-position speed chart inside for reference. In addition, there are round hubs used for storing the second v-belt, inside the outer cover of the belt guard. There are four latches that secure the outer belt guard cover in place.
