Francis Reed Co Drill press, sold by The Fairbanks Co New York and other locations, either serial no 12, or machine no 12 in some plant inventory. I have had this machine in the shop for at least ten years, kept it oiled with whatever was handy to preserve it. Need the space, so, cleaned up the grunge on the two tables, one of which shows lots of bad operators. A bit of Corrosion X on all the bearings and etc, and the machine is running rather well considering that I didn't purge any of the bearings of the old oil/grease. The motor is a bit noisy, but, that may be due to design. Didn't oil the rear bearing, too much trouble. The belt tension lever at top of the unit requires a small wedge to keep proper tension on the belts for good running. I never tried to adjust the tension unit so that it would hold tension, the wood wedge worked just fine. The yellow tint to the pics is due to the shop lighting in that area. Machine was completely reworked several years ago then when that company went bust, the unit came to me. It needs a very good scrubbing and the bearings properly cleaned and lubed. Note that the original chuck wrench and morse taper pin are with the machine, hanging from the original chain. Please note-- the pics of chuck, etc may appear a bit fuzzy, as they were done with the machine running. |
