According to company records, the serial number puts the date of production 1916. Originally sold to Norton Grinding of Worchester, MA. I purchased this machine in 2012 from a shop in Stoughton, MA.
The cutterhead has 3 knives and I made a spanner wrench to be able to adjust the nuts that hold the blades on. The cutterhead rides on cast-iron pillow block bearings that were installed at some point before I owned the machine.
This machine also comes with the original 5hp motor, but I had replaced it with a brand new 7.5 hp motor after the motor bearings starting making noise about 5 years ago. The blade cover was made from wood by the previous owner.
The machine has a unique tilting infeed bed meant for creating drafted pattern stock, but I have never used this feature.
