as far as i can find out this is a pump tank (air hammer, expansion). it is copper and brass,weight of 23 or so pounds. the mariners museum informed me this is a tank or flask made by worthigton and matches what was recovered from the US Monitor from the civil war. it was also dated by a gentleman from Revere copper as being from the 19th century. this is because of the dovetail joinery.
