A friend and I rescued a Frankenlathe from a gentleman's basement recently. He was using a modern 1/2 hp motor to power the lathe via a V-belt passing around the original motor's windings. He said he did it because he didn't have 3-phase power to run the stock motor (40 years ago). The center portion of the motor housing is long gone. Before we dismantled it, the lathe was operational, such as it was. What I have are the motor end plates (with good bearings), the spindle shaft, and the rotor windings (condition unknown). If somebody can use these parts, they are welcome to them. |
