Manning, Maxwell & Moore, Inc. was both a machinery dealer and a manufacturer. Among the manufacturing companies that they owned were Shaw Electric Crane Co., Consolidated Safety Valve Co., Hancock Inspirator Co., Ashcroft Mfg. Co., Hayden & Derby Mfg. Co., and Putnam Machine Co.
In the late 1890s Manning, Maxwell & Moore manufactured the "Milliken Bicycle Drill", which was a bicycle-powered machine for drilling structural steel on a construction site. It had been developed and patented by Foster Milliken, a partner in a New York City structural steel firm.
In 1964 Manning, Maxwell & Moore was acquired by Dresser Industries, Inc., of Cleveland, and afterward operated as the Crane & Hoist Operations, Dresser Industries, Inc.
