I was told this machine was originally owned by NACA (National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics , the forerunner of NASA) in Langley, VA. Construction on this facility began in 1917 and was completed in 1920. My information comes from the widow of the most recent owner, who had been a machinist at NACA, and later NASA. There is no accession tag on the saw itself to corroborate that story. This machine, with it’s geared motor drive resembles the one shown on page 128 of the 1921 Crescent catalog. |
