Machine Information
Serial Number: 12-2912
Machine Type: Jointer
Machine Description: 6" Jointer, Model 654
Owner: Steven Auletta
Manufacture Date: 1940
Notes: Source=Owner's submission (admin added date based on s/n). Owner's notes: The jointer has a circular Delta logo badge that is red with the word DELTA written near the middle and three thin lines crossing the “D” vertically (tough the lines and lettering are all slanted slightly to the right). Based on my internet research, this indicates a production year of 1939-1941. Delta customer service confirmed this was accurate when I emailed them the serial number. The jointer is mounted to an open flare-legged stand with a badge on the front for “A.L. CO. Schenectady” on it, along with a number, which I believe to be an asset tag from the defunct American Locomotive Company that had a large plant located in Schenectady, NY (within 50 miles from where I found/purchased the machine. The stand has a very worn Delta label on it as well, and it appears to be the same stand offered with the jointer/saw/stand combo under model number 1164. However, the top of the stand was covered with a ~1" thick board (some kind of predecessor to MDF), and the jointer was mounted to the center rather than over one of the original rectangular holes. I will post more/better pictures soon, but I need the weather to cooperate so I can get some better lighting. Please feel free to message me if you have any idea what kind of things the jointer may have been used for in the setting of a locomotive manufacturing company. Thanks!
