This sander was a bonus buy in that I was following up on a Tauco 14 inch bandsaw and this sander happened to be found at the same place. It became part of the deal and I ended up with both bandsaw and sander. The sander belonged to a millwright who operated a small engineering business in Durban South Africa. The business was left to his son and then passed on to the previous owner. It would seem that the sander stood for many years unused and slowly collected rust as can be seen in the purchased condition. When purchased it came without a stand but still had the vee belt attached. The disc on the machine had been changed at some time roundabout 1961. Its replacement was a 10" Picador Disc Made in England. The photo shows the date and price paid for it in 1961 R5.25 =Rand5 25 cents South African currency. A homemade stand made out of angle iron originally from an electricity pylon was used and it was fitted with a 1/2 hp Hoover motor. A neat and compact machine well manufactured.
