This machine is currently at the Illinois Railway Museum, Union, IL. We are only the second owner, the original being the streetcar company in Milwaukee - TMER&T. It has been in storage the last thirty years and is now restored for use in our new woodshop area, where it will re-live its original purpose in producing wood parts for street and electric railway equipment. Estimated weight of the machine based on old catalogs is 12,000 lb. It is powered by three 5 HP motors and one 3 HP motor, all very old open frame three phase induction motors. The original electrical controls have been re-mounted on the machine. Three different grits are used on the three drums; and controls allow use of any of the three singly or in multiple combinations. A manual transmission allows three forward speeds, and one reverse for the eight feed rolls. A dust collection pan lies below the sanding drums and the final operation is a power broom to sweep the dust off of the finished workpiece.
