This planer was laid up for several years, when i aquired this planer it was very rusty and a lot of the working parts were siezed.I worked at it 12 to 16 hours a day for about four weeks.I freed all the working parts,replaced all the bearings,side cutter heads were in rough shape and the treads on the side cutter shalfs were damaged beyond repair.So i milled the shalfs down to 1 1/2 inchs for new round heads instead of the old square type heads,retreaded the top of the shalfs to take a 1 1/4 inch nut.Discarded the flat belt system,milled all the flat pulleys into V pulleys. It was easier to mill the original flat pulleys into V pulleys because the pulleys on the side cutter shalfs were also used as spacers for the bearings and the top and bottom cutter head shalfs had tapered ends were the pulleys were mounted.I installed a seperate motor for each cutter instead of using the old type counter shalf,10hp for the top cutter, 10hp for the bottom cutter,5hp for the outside cutter, 3hp for the inside cutter and i installed a hydrostatic variable speed reducer for the feed.I used her for the first time on august 28,2009.This planer planes perfect lumber.
