Comments:
I spotted this diminutive but heavy 61-year-old Homecraft shaper on Vermont Craigslist and had an email exchange with the seller within two hours of his posting. He had eight additional inquiries by the time I drove from Maine to Vermont and picked it up for the $135 asking price two days later. This machine, with original paint, was in excellent condition with only light rust on the table. It has the large 1 HP repulsion induction motor which was an $83.50 option in 1948. When I saw the pictures on Craigslist it looked like someone had draped a washing machine hose over the shaper. Turns out it is the power cord which is a full 5/8 inch in diameter. All it needed was a cleaning, new faces for the fence and new cord end plug. I rewired the motor leads for 220.
