One of the first old machines I bought was this wood lathe. It belonged to an old retired wood craftsman. When I arrived at his home 3 years ago I extended my hand for a handshake. He did likewise. I noticed he was missing (3) fingers starting from his pinky which left only his thumb and index. I asked him if he would mind sharing this mishap, and he commented "I ran out of wood!" We both laughed.
I replaced all the bearings in the headstock and left the rest of the machine alone. I had it mounted on a wooden bench which I replaced with a Kennedy bench. Bolted everything to the floor and to the post. This machine does not move or vibrate. I am not much of a wood turner and have only made a few chips. My two sons although, have turned out some very nice black walnut bowls and vases.
