I picked this up at an estate sale. It belonged to grandpa and relatives and kids were at each other when I arrived, ("where there is a will, there is a relative"), I believe that is a Robert Frost quote!

The column, spindle, levers and table were rusted badly even though it was indoors (barn/shop). I plugged it in and the motor labored badly, plus the bearings in the upper spindle howled. The lights in their shop flickered. I thought it was going to start a fire or blow out the fuses. I negotiated a lower price.
This beast weighs a ton! Got it home and went to work planning on replacing the bearings and motor. Turned out the bearings were sound (everything was out of a alignment) and the motor was just shorting out with some bare wires. I rewired it for 220V, cleaned up the rust, aligned the 2 step pulleys, lubed everything and now it purrs. It came with a heavy vice, 4 extra chucks and drawers full of large drill bits, both morse and straight tapers. It is amazing how this old stuff is so abused but with a little TLC everything comes together again. I have found that especially with electric motors. They are almost impossible to die unless dropped or rewired wrong! Most of them just need to be blown out, oiled if they have gits and run awhile.
