Acquired in northern New Jersey from the 3rd owner. Original owner manufactured store fronts and gave the saw to his son (2nd owner) to continue the business. The son sold it to the 3rd owner who used it to manufacture timber frame houses and custom bars. I am the 4th owner and paid $400.
Saw is a GR 55, 14" blade, with a Medium Arm – 28" rip, 21" crosscut.
Motor is an AMF DeWalt 3 HP, single phase, 230v, frame 563A serial 422 H16. 1" arbor. Original Saw used the serial to date the motor to May 1952. The "A" on the end of the frame was stamped on later – we're not sure what this means, possibly the bearings were changed from original.
Starter was an original Arrow-Hart at the back right corner of the table. There was a remote switch added later to the front of the table that interrupts power to the main winding.
Saw was complete, with original cast dust elbow, original anti-kickback pawl, original wiring, arbor wrench, and a "DeWalt" marked 14" blade. I believe the table was the original "wedge" fence design as well, though the fence is missing.
All the badges are pristine and you can even make out the "Keep Saw Sharp" decal on the guard.
A note about the carriage bearings: The GR was the last model of its size to have 4 bearings on the carriage – they moved to 8 on the GA and GE. The 4 bearings are massive and were discontinued around the end of the Korean War – there are no replacements available that I am aware of.
