This planer was used since W.W.II in a cabinet shop by the man I bought it from. He got the planer from his father and it was old even back then. It has a 5hp single phase General Electric motor, model #5SCR2-54C-86. It works, but it ain't pretty--- yet. Twin v-belt drive (I had started to remove the guard and belts, then put the guard back on for the pic) from the motor to the cutterhead and leather belt drive from the cutterhead to the rollers. The two glass bottles on riser tubes above the babbitt bearings provide gravity-feed lubrication to them. The bar between them is for rolling planed stock back to the front of the planer. The light colored material on the bed is a Formica table that covers the cast bed and rollers for planing thin stock, and will be discarded. The twin-handled screw on the left side raises and lowers the bed, and the wood handle on the right engages the infeed and outfeed rollers. Although this looks like a just simple frame with a couple pulleys, belts, and a cutterhead, and shouldn't weigh much, four guys couldn't pick it up and move it onto a furniture dolly-- even with the motor removed.

A different angle of the front of the planer can be viewed in the Superior 12" Jointer pics of the Photo Index (back view of jointer). It shows the spoked pulley and leather belt drive a little clearer. This planer should be a lot of fun to restore, but will take a some time.
