I aquired this band saw over twenty years ago in Alabama from the second owner. Acccording to him, the saw had been powered by an old single cylinder gasoline engine. A friend of his bought the saw just for the old gasoline engine and gave him the band saw. From looking at the old catalogs on this site it may be a Model 345 or a Model 00. It is not exactally like either one.

The saw set outside uncovered for at least ten years before I came into possession of it. The second owner told me that he put a coat or two of linseed oil on all parts of the saw each year. When I got the machine, there was only some minor pitting on the table, no frozen bolts, or fittings. It came apart with no trouble and very little penetrating oil. The original paint was black and appeared to be an asphaltum based paint that was hard to strip. Repainted it John Deere Green beacuse I happened to have some on hand. I took a cleanup cut off the axles and repoured the babbit bearings and replaced the tires. Added some Wright #1 guides making a new support for the lower guide. Originally, the saw did not have a bearing guide on the bottom of the blade only a couple of steel guides either side of the blade. Removed the tight and loose pullies and their control levers and replaced them with a large V groove pulley and a three horse 1725 rpm Baldor electric motor.

I use the saw regularly and it runs as smooth as silk with just a swish-swish sound. My 14" Powermatic 141 makes much more noise. It will cut any wood you can lift on to the table up to about 15" thick.
