The second owner; the person I bought it from, said it was 3 hp 3 ph. I hadn't heard of Peerless 3 hp direct drive B-C planers and was a bit excited. I live in San Diego and posted on the rodeo for a Dallas OWWM'r to assist in assessing the planer. Rick Baro responded and happily looked at the machine for me. He gave it a clear bill of health and stated he thought that motor was 1ph. Hmmm; I thought well, that would be great, but.... So I asked the owner if he was sure it was 3 ph. He said absolutely. He said he bought about 15 years ago and that it was never run except upon his purchase. I got it home and plugged it in to answer the phase question once and for all. She started without so much as a hiccup. The tables are flat; not a single missing or fractured part. I am very pleased with my purchase. I didn't find it in the Marinaras Trench, but I paid well less than I sold my PM 100 for, that was not in as nice of condition. Since a direct drive BC planer is/was a quest machine for me, and I was then planer-less; I was happy to pay the $250 to ship it from Dallas to San Diego.

I cleaned up the bed last night and after a coat of wax, planed some white oak. I have not yet took the the calipers to the stock, but the results look good, flat, and snipe free. The blades are by chance fresh and clean. I intend to freshen up with new bearings in the motor in short order, followed by a full disassembly and restoration as soon as I get full splooge tank capability. I am tired of grinding and chemically stripping paint. I am very pleased with my purchase to witch I am very grateful for Rick's assistance.

No paper, and no indication of its prior home like a school district tag (thank goodness). I am lucky that for the time being I live in San Diego and between Phoenix, S.D. and Los Angeles, a can find about any thing under the sun. Here it is July and I bought my first machine June of '08 and as of July of '09 I have a complete stable of vintage machines (drill presses, band saw, planer, edge sander, disc sander, and jointer). I'm a happy woodworker/machine tinkerer.
