Revision: I have reviewed the 1935 to 1941 Sears Tool Catalogs on this site and amend my earlier posting, shown below. The 1/3 hp Companion motor is as shown on page 31 of the 1936 catalog, the specifications for the drill press match those shown for the "All Purpose Drill Press" shown on pages 14-15 of that catalog. The steel column diameter is seems to be the best identifier because the 1-7/8" diameter column was not used in later years. The only difference is in the feed arm, which is shown in the catalog as 2 arms where mine has the same feed arm as the "Heavy Duty Drill Press" shown on pages 16-17 of that catalog.
Purchased this in June (via a local CL) from a person who said he bought it at an auction 25 years ago. There is no model plate on it. It appears to be like a couple of others here that are dated to the late 1930s. It is missing the original switch and the spindle guard. Other than paint splatters, some rust on the column, table and base, and needing a new belt and switch, it appears to be in good condition. The motor is a 1/3 hp Companion with Cat. No. 2228, and seems to run strong. The switch may have been removed when a new cord was installed. The paint appears to be original.
