Here is my latest weekend project. This little jointer wagged its tail at me at a recent machinery auction. Here is a quickie snapshot of it. If anyone can tell me more about its age, I'd appreciate it. It has ball bearings and a two knife round cutterhead. The knives are held in slots by gibs. It was set up for flat belt drive, but I plan to make it direct drive. There is a mounting flange on the motor side that leads me to believe that direct drive was an original option. I will fabricate a mounting bracket. I already have a 3450 rpm 1 hp TEFC motor for it.

The best part of this jointer, of course, is the weight driven guard return. It is run by an old sash weight. There's more engineering in that guard return than in the whole rest of the machine! I was also pleasantly suprised to find an original Yates-American decal in perfect condition on the side of the outfeed table.
