As I recall, my Dad purchased this planer after I entered college (1970). On his property (SW Washington) he had a number of mature alders sawn into lumber, and used this planer for surfacing. Around 1984, I built kitchen cabinets of that alder for the house I owned at the time. Between the two of us, there were a lot of alder woodworking projects!
