Comments:
I acquired this jointer in a trade for a restored Walker Turner 6" jointer and a Craftsman 10" contractor-style table saw. I date the jointer to approximately 1900 based on the American name plate coupled with the Clemments name plate. The two companies merged in 1897 and the machine appears in literature dated 1903. This was a babbit bearing machine that a prior owner converted to pillow block bearings with a three knive cutting head. The machine's combined table length, seven feet, is somewhat long for an 8" jointer. The machine was disassembled, sand blasted, primed and then painter black. The tables were flat, but the ways were worn and permanent shims were installed [screwed to the outfeed table ways]in order to bring the in feed and out feed tables parallel. This machine is now owned by a local woodworking friend. NOTE: in the pictures below the legs are installed improperly. They are reversed. We corrected the problem when the machine went to its new home.
