I bought this machine from a man who's father had purchased it from a factory in the early 1960's. It has not been used since then. It has a round head, with Babitt bearings. For its age and lack of use, it's in very good condition. The head turns nicely, and the bearings are tight. Both tables adjust up and down, with some effort. The tables are lightly pitted, but only on the center line, and not enough to affect operation. I have the fence, but there is no guard. The jointer is set up for a flat belt.
The motor is a 3 hp Century, single phase, 110/220 v, 32/16 amps. It's huge--14" diameter, over 150 lbs. I'm going to try to get it rehabbed and put it to use if it can be done for a reasonable price.
I disassembled it and repainted in in May-June of '04. It came apart very easily--no broken bolts, no cracks, babbitt in excellent shape.
This machine has spent it's whole life in St Louis. It was built here, as was the motor, and apparently lived in a downtown furniture factory. The previous owner lived in north St Louis County, while I'm across the river in O'Fallon IL. With this many local connections, I smell a newspaper story coming on...
Edit: I sold this machine in the late summer of 2013 for $500, which helped pay for a 20" Crescent jointer as a replacement.
