This machine came from a small chair manufacturer in Boonville New York. Made by L.G. McKnight & Son Co. Chair Machinery located in Gardner, Massachusetts. The machine is also has a the brass tag from the seller Babcock Machinery Company Times Building Broadway, New York. The drum measures 16" dia x 24" length formed of .375" steel plate with three heavy cast iron spoke support assemblies internally. The photos clearly show the original flat belt drivetrain but the machine was converted to a Vee belt drive using modern starter and 5hp three phase motor. The drum is rated at 350 RPM's. These machines are indeed very handy for shaping large curved parts such as chair legs but are also perfect for jobs such as oars and paddles. These McKnights are deceptively heavy and I would suspect this machine weighs close to 600-700 pounds without the motor.
