5 hp, 240 volt, 3 phase, 1" arbor radial arm saw, with guard sized to accept a 14" blade. Purchased on eBay in 2002, from central California.

The machine is as heavy-duty and industrial as it looks, and was used successfully for 30+ years by its last owner. It has been equally functional in my shop. Watch your fingers, though!

The stand is marked "Comet" and the builder's plate indicates that Comet Manufacturing Co. was its manufacturer. However, very similar saws have been sold under the Comet name, at different times, by Davis & Wells, Boice-Crane and Comet Engineering Inc. Apparently there were a large number of minor modifications in the basic design over the years, since one is constantly seeing variations on the basic, robust design.

One of the few saws which equal a classic DeWalt in quality, in my opinion. It's very rigid and has lots of capacity for its size. But you do need some room behind the saw for that sliding arm; it won't go right up against the wall like most DeWalts.
