This Craftsman table saw belonged to my grandfather and later my father who were both building contractors in NY state. I know it was used extensively in their business, and it was probably used in the construction of dozens of houses, renovations and additions. I recall my dad using it in the construction of 2 extensions to our family house, and it resided his garage for as long as I can remember - called to duty when an occasion presented itself. I can still smell the sawdust!
It is a Craftsman Model 101.02161 10" table saw, circa 1940 or perhaps a bit earlier. Although I'm not certain, from information gathered on this site, I believe the saw was manufactured by Atlas for Sears-Roebuck. When I inherited it, it was mounted on a homemade cart, which included a bin/drawer for dust collection, a box for blades, and sported 2 wooden "wagon style" wheels for ease of transport. I recall dad telling me that my grandfather aquired the wheels from a NYC organ grinders cart. I have since taken it off the cart, since the cart had major issues with the wheels. (I saved the cart - hopefully for a restore)
Although it runs, it does have issues with the arbor pulley, and simply because of its age and the amount of use it has seen, I suspect the bearings should be replaced.
Anyway, its a wonderful old saw, and built very solidly - a piece of Americana, really. I intend to restore it with the helpful assistance of lots of knowledgable people and information on this site.
