One fine day in 2008, I received an e-mail from Eric Tuck, saying that he had tried to call me, and had left a voice mail--and where the heck was I hiding...and would I like to save a 12-inch jointer from the scrapper?

[more later]

This is clearly an early machine, and as Dick Streff mentions regarding his Moak http://www.owwm.com/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=2705 , is without the brake, built-in control station and dust chute as found on later models. My jointer also has the early fence design. Unlike Dick's jointer, however, this is a two-knive head, suggesting that it may be even earlier than his, yet it does include the rabbeting arm and knife guard.

Interestingly, while this jointer sports the intermediate Moak logo, simply "MOAK" cast into the main casting, after removing the paint for restoration, the older identification of "Moak Machine and Tool Company Port Huron Mich. U.S.A. (as seen on Leigh Dean' Moak http://www.owwm.com/photoindex/images/8138-B.jpg ) was clearly visible in the casting.

The Deluxe jointers were differentiated from the Standard by having a "machine tool finish," and gauges for depth of cut and rabbeting. This example is clearly a Standard, given both the lack of gauges, and the relatively rough castings.
