This wood lathe was found in North Carolina and completely restored by AMERICAN MACHINE of Shelby NC. This lathe was originally manufactured for Sears to be sold under the CRAFTSMAN name by ATLAS PRESS CO. It has a 4 step pulley in the headstock giving it 4 speeds and the outer rim of the large diameter of the pulley is drilled for indexing. The tailstock was designed so it can be offset to the headstock thereby enabling tapered turnings. The spindle is threaded on both ends permitting outboard turning of larger diameter pieces.
