Baldor 12" Pedestal Grinder. 4-8-09.
Hey,
Well this one has been 90% done for quite a while and became a machine that gets used daily. I loaned the right side wheel cover to a friend so he could have one cast for his grinder, and we got that back and finally finished up a few little projects to "get er done"!
This started as kind of a nasty restro because they must have been using a lot of water during grinding. Many of the fasteners were so rusted that they jusy spun the heads off as we were disassembling them. But the nice thing is the needle scaler doesn't know the difference between heavy flaky rust, 1 coat of paint or 7 coats of paint it's all about the same to that dude. We installed new sealed bearings and painted her with Sherwin Williams Industrial Enamel in Graphite color.
This one came with some really nice Surty lighted eye shields which didn't fit this grinder well so those now live on my Hammond grinder and fit that one perfectly. Amazingly, it also came with a like new green stone on the left side for carbide, and let me tell you, that was the only thing like new about this baby. Anyway that must have been a spendy rock and it's a real blessing to have it. We now use that 12" wire wheel on the right almost everyday for some manner of rust busting or restoring.
She's a beaut, and a welcomed addition to grinder row.
