Hey all,
Here's a venerable WWII vet that helped defend our country. A real Patternmaker's machine this baby is a huge macker! This is the first one of these that I have seen in person, and one of those machines that is shocking the first time you actually are face to face with one. They look so much tamer in the brochures! It was quite exciting to power up and sand something with it the first time. The machine is complete and runs really smooth. Everyone asks "What are you going to sand with that?"... the answer..."Whatever we want too". We are in the process of rebuilding this one's smaller brother the Oliver 34, 30" double disk sander. One of the things that we learned during that process is that it's Howell "Red Band" motor actually has Timken Taper Roller Bearings in it. I can't find any mention of that in the brochures, but I'm sure this one has those too. It came with a neat Baldor Lectron Brake that works great, and if ever there was a machine that needed a brake these would be it. I'll have to check and see how long it would coast to a stop without the brake someday. It takes 16 seconds to come up to speed when started, but when you hit the stop button it will probably spin for 3 days without that brake.
Another pretty scarce machine that a friend of mine put me onto. Thanks Michael! The trip to pick this up was another one of our sorties with 2197 miles in 2 1/2 days. You have to have a good bladder to roll with us. (If the girls were with us this trip would have taken 3 weeks) We got to meet the coolest guy in OK on this trip and also see Danford's setup for the first time. That was fun!!!
