Machine was on Craigslist along with some other tools. I was not interested in the lathe but it was with the tools I did want. It is a fairly light machine (42 pounds) with a cast iron bed. The headstock is aluminum with oilite bushings. I believe the tail stock is cast iron with a dead center. It has an old GE washing machine motor with a cloth covered cord...no switch. The seller warned that when plugging in the motor: "to make sure you have the wood centered or it might fly off before you get back to it.":-)
Other than that, he said he bought it from an older gentleman up north and moved it to Atlanta. I sold the lathe for $40, but posted it here as the only example (so far) of a foster lathe.
Based on the Foster catalog posted on the site, it appears to be from around 1947. Even though the catalog is not dated, you can look on page 8 and you will see the back end of a 1947 Pontiac that is being used to power the "Foster Flexible-Power Saw" (which reminds me a whole lot of the Inca arm saw)
