I recently found this belt driven grinder at the local Restore, attached to a small metal stand and powered by a decrepit old washing machine motor.I have run across many a grinding arbor, But this was the first time I had ever seen one with the guards and toolrests still attached.I was on my way back to the truck when I spotted the driver line decal under the grime. I had been thinking of getting something along these lines to use as a dedicated rusty hardware cleaner, and this lil' guy fit the bill perfectly.I pressed in new bushings and repainted it the green gray delta used in the eighties, which is a fairly close match. I scrounged up a much nicer old washer motor, and voila. The only thing that isn't right is the fact that the arbor nuts don't match. The left handed nut is a regular hex nut, whereas the right hand nut is more of a flange shape with two flats for a wrench. What is odd about this is that whichever one is not original, the P.O. managed to find a 1/2"-24 nut, a size I have only seen on other driver line tools( I used to own a lathe of theirs that was that size throughout).
Suffice to say, this machine works fine, looks really cool ( I think the brass oiler caps are boss),and will be in my workshop for many years to come.
