This 12-inch planer is labeled "W. B. & J. E. BOICE". As best we can tell by looking at old ads in Popular Science, The "W. B. & J. E. Boice" company name was replaced by "Boice-Crane Co." in mid-1936 (it probably took at least a year before all machines had the new company name in the castings). The earliest mention of a planer from Boice was in their January 1936 ad. It was only mentioned a couple more times and was never featured. Perhaps the planer was seen as too expensive for the readers of Popular Science, who knows.
UPDATE: I found an ad in the September 1936 Popular Mechanics. See below.
The pictures were forwarded to us by Ken Rasmussen, who is not the owner.

Ad. Note "Boice-Crane Tools", from the transitional period between "W. B. & J. E. Boice" and "Boice-Crane Co."
