Comments:
I purchased this drill press, S/N 1 9 44, at a yard sale in Oct., 2003, and completely restored it. Other than removing rust, removing paint and repainting, the only repair required was to straighten a slight bend in the spindle in the vicinity of the juncture between the plain and splined sections. The chuck is a 1/2" Supreme #6T. Although the key was missing, I was able to find a Jacobs replacement (#K3) at Leonard Jed Co. in Baltimore that fits perfectly. The motor is a Leland Farraday unit that is clearly not original, but it is a heavy-duty 1/2 hp. motor and runs like new. (When I got it, someone had wired the motor to run in reverse . . . go figure!) I'm really happy with this drill press, and I'd love to get hold of a copy of a manual for the D950 series, if there ever was one. I'd also like to find a replacement for the gearshift knob that someone along the line used to replace one of the red bakelite pilot wheel feed knobs!
