I acquired this unit from my good friend Brad for $200. I had previously acquired a Unisaw from him, which is in the photo archive.. He is a neighbor of mine in San Diego. He used to operate a machine shop and the band saw was used extensively, primarily for metal work. I use it mostly for woodworking , so having the multiple pulley system is nice. Industrial strength degreaser and rust removal with phosphoric acid was required. Many of the parts needed replacement. Fortunately, many of these have not changed since 1951!. Rockwell internation calls the part list the "old style" metal-wood cutting band saw. It would have been cheaper to get a new bandsaw but this thing is not only bullet-proof but will likely survive the atom bomb. Let's face it....the new ones are cheaper because, well, they are made cheaper. This unit from 1951 must weigh in excess of 200 pounds. I repainted it with most of the colors true to the original with a few embellishments. I had to get the motor serviced, but this was superior to buying a new one (about the same price actually).

Solid American heavy metal that will stand the test of time!
