I bought an old Parks sight unseen off ebay. Doug Rewerts, who saw it in person, and I corresponded about the planer and despite his warnings about the horrible screeching noises the gearbox was making I bought it anyway. I must admit it looked pretty darn rough but since all the componets were there, especially the stand and belt guard, I felt it was worth a shot.

After getting it home and taking her all apart it became quite obvious, in a financial sense, it was not going to be painless getting her back in shape. The gears were mostly destroyed by a fix job aimed at solving a gearbox mount issue. The babbitt that captures the sleeve the gearbox hangs off was damaged. The previous owner made a bracket to support the sleeve but set it too low causing insufficient gear clearance. They stripped and were downright scary looking. It was eventually corrected during the restoration.

I tore her down and cleaned it up looking for affordable replacement gears. The search went on for months. Thankfully Tim Kuist stepped forward with a gear donor (it said so on its license) and the restoration was on.
