I wasn't looking for a spindle sander but a nice one turned up while seeking a planer and I ended up buying it. The story behind it is a cabinet shop went out of business three years ago and a non-woodworker bought it for the building. All the machines, tooling, and lumber were left behind for the new owner to liquidate. The guy has been selling it off little by little over time and is getting towards the end. Sure wish I had found the place when he first bought it. Jeff Smith went with me and we walked it over. I found a couple sanders of interest in particular a Max Spindle sander. Not really looking for one it did catch my eye and when I saw it run the "wants" set in. I mulled it over a few days and eneded up buying it.

All in all not a bad machine. He wanted $500 for it and wouldn't take anything less. It has 10 spindles, 3 throat plates, dust hood, and two large boxes stuffed full with well over a hundred sanding sleeves, maybe 200. Oh, and a C-clamp too :) I figured as a package deal that wasn't a bad price. As a bonus there was a fresh snake skin on the table. In fact the snake was quite comfortable living under the base and came out to see what was going on when we started to load it. Having a snake crawl out at your feet while moving heavy equipment isn't a thought I relish.

This turned out to be an easy restoration. I disassembled, cleaned, installed new bearings,painted, and put it back together again. It runs silky smooth and is extremely quiet.
