My dad called me the other day and said there was an old lathe someone was selling for cheap and he didn't know if I would want it.?!?
I showed up at the guys house (within walking distance from my house) And he took me to an old beat down shed. Inside sat this Hall and Brown lathe. He said that when his dad bought the house in the fifties that it was in the basement. They moved it to the shed where he did some furniture repairs. Then 25 years ago his dad died and it has sat there ever since with his last project still in chucked between centers.
Three of us managed to get it in my truck and I gave him $75 and headed home (which I could see from his back yard).
It has a Montgomery Ward 1/2hp 110v motor, a swing of about 13" and a 5' bed. The amount of paint on it is staggering you can barley make out the name. This is a great difference from the pos harbor freight lathe that I had been using for the past 12 years. You know the one, lots of sheet metal, bad switch, and when you chuck something up it bows in the middle
I am glad to have my new lathe and I will restore it to it's former glory
