This model is a SM705 (the designation for a SM700 sander along with a stand).
This early version is distinguished by its main body casting, the first of several variants used. Last photo below shows this first version featuring two distinct upright portions with low platform between. Starting around 1940, or shortly thereafter, a second version of the casting was introduced adding a web of material between uprights to strengthen the unit. Later still, by model 5510, the main body was filled in solid between uprights for yet more strength. Also the first two versions, used on models SM700/SM750, did not use a pulley cover leaving the step pulley opening exposed.
This early version of the SM705 presented here also features a cast iron disk. An early-1940s SM705 sander I also have features an aluminum disk as well as the reinforcing web on the main casting.
Finally, W/T began adding series numbers to some machines in 1939 and this machine bears such a number tag. In 1940, W/T badges changed to an orange(red) round badge prominently bearing the Walker Turner name in black lettering.
That this machine bears the earlier style "Driver Line" badge, the earliest main casting style and a series number tag pretty much pegs it as having a 1939 BOD.
Restored: Stripped to clean metal; new bearings throughout; new rubber cover for drive drum; new idler drum shaft; all components nickel plated where plated originally; corner bolt blocks zinc plated as original; repainted badge matching original colors; color matched machine paint to W/T green/gray color; black color accents used where original. Swapped original W/T 1/3 hp split phase motor for W/T 1/2 hp cap-start motor. Miter gauge is original W/T with 5/8" x 1/4" bar.
