MAX MANUFACTURING CO. started in 1938 and existed until the Mid 1980’s. Just to recap, this is a MAX 12” Disk Heavy Duty Sander. It came to me by way of a public auction in Hagerstown-Maryland at Statton Furniture. Statton Furniture existed for 82 years before finally succumbing to the big box import cheap furniture outlets.
This little dynamo is Industrial Cool and Made in San Jose-California USA. It came to me including all original parts and the paint is factory original, and in really good shape. No rust at all. It's very heavy duty, created with tolerances that are demanded in the most stringent industrial settings. This machine is thick cast iron. Also, all of the main body is cast as well as is the very heavy floor base. The unique table raises and lowers by means of a crank handle with rack and pinion and tilts 45 degrees.
Power is provided by a direct drive Toshiba World Energy Drip Proof 1HP, 1PH machine, and it runs at 1730 rpm’s incredibly smooth and quite. Included were the factory installed dust proof switch and centrifugal brake. The dust port/chamber is there just below the table too.
