Comments:
I purchased the band saw on e-bay in July 2003 for $201.50 including shipping from Plano Texas. I had a G.E. 1/4 hp motor that didn't work. I foolishly discarded the motor. I put new neoprene tires, 1 hp motor, pulley and link belt to get 3000 sfm. This saw has bronze bushings with grease cups. The bushings are worn, but with adjustsments it saws very nicely. It matches the description in the boice Crane 1931 catalog with the exception of the table size. This saw has as table of 9 in. X 11 in. which is smaller than the 9 1/4 x 11 1/4 description in the catalog. Since (in my experience) newer models are usually bigger, I surmize this saw is pre 1931. Boice crane history says the name first was used in 1926. There fore I believe the saw was born between 1926 and 1931. The parts on the saw are label with a C and a number in the two hundred range as the frame is C-200. The picture shows the wooden guides mounted in the upper position. The catalog has the guides reversed. It works well in the reverse arrangement. This saw doesn't have the optional aluminum wheel gaurds, nor the mounting bench, fence or any other options mentioned the the catalog. The cast text on the main casting says Boice Crane H. G. Crane-Adrian Mich.
