Comments:
This old guy was in the weekly Bulletin Board and I spied it early one Wednseday,
It was the only 16 inch jointer I've ever seen in person or for sale anywhere near
here. I held my breath most of the time until it was in the trailer. The guy was
using it as his daily driver with a 2 blade clamshell holding 12" knives instead
of 16" ones. I knew that was a bad idea but learned more later about clamshells. That
issue is still unresolved, but the rest of the restoration is moving right along
and will be posted in an "after" version soon I hope. The machine came to me with
later model GE 2HP which will be re-tasked to my shaper and I have a nice old
Century 3HP 1ph that will look right for this jointer. It came to my seller
from the old Wilson Lumber company in St. Marys WV. My uncle worked there long
ago but he's long gone too so I can't ask for history. I am sure that the current
head was a replacement early in the 1900s for what was probably a square head.
The weight is probably 700-800lb. so he gets wheels in this next incarnation.
