My wife's uncle was a pattern maker, woodworker and life-long avid tool collector. When he died in his 90's some years ago, his son asked me if I would like to have one of his two band saws. Of course I said yes and chose the Delta 14" based on it's reputation but not sure just what I was getting. The saw came with the original operating instructions and purchase order receipt so I know that it was delivered to Uncle's home on July 9, 1934. It is a Delta Model 890 with the riser block attachment and the 1/2hp Delta Model 820 electric motor. The base is not Delta but it is a nice solid cast iron unit with a unique motor mount that permits lifting the motor off the belt when the saw is not in use, sort of like releasing the blade tension. The saw also came with a number of 105" blades including four NOS in their original boxes. At some time a newer fence was added and the pressed steel wheels were re-tred with red urethane tires. The saw runs beautifully and needs no restoration. I did add a tooth brush to keep the lower wheel tire clean. It appears that, at home, Uncle was more of a tool collector than a woodworker since this saw shows very little usage. Enjoy the pictures. I've sent copies of the instructions to the OWWM historian for addition to the data base.
Now I need to find a new home for my 1922 J D Wallace band saw.
