Oliver #416-D, 36" Bandsaw. Serial # 203387, 1975. 11-23-08.
Hey,
Here's another really nice bandsaw that sadly spent it's whole life, before it met me, in maximum security prison! I might be the only person to ever get in and out of maximum security in about 45 minutes. Anyway, we rescued this machine now that it has been rehabilitated it deserves a second chance. We had a little bit of drama hauling this machine because when they loaded me, under the gun towers, it was on a rickety pallet and the spirit was so weird in that place all I wanted to do was to get out of there. So I didn't want to take the time to do it right, and once outside the walls my boys (they had to wait at the gate for me) and I blocked under the pallet and strapped the machine. But on the way home the pallet still disintegrated, the saw listed badly to the port and we pulled into a hotel parking lot. After about an hour of working like animals with a 6' pry bar and blocks, we able to lever the saw onto 4x4s, and get the pallet out from under it. These are way heavier than they look, but we were lucky to have a lot of material with us to work with. That must have looked scary to the drivers behind us!
The saw has original paint, Carter wheels and guides and the famous 5 HP Oliver pancake motor. What a great motor design this is, and it sure makes a smooth running saw. It slices right through a 16" Sycamore round like butter. Boy, do we know how to have all the fun or what?
