Comments:
My father traded some old motors for this lathe about 10 years ago. He then traded some SS sheet for the work to build a custom shaft for the second flatbelt cone and 4 stop v-belt pulley with a 110v 3/4hp motor then attached below that. A number of the gears have had teeth replaced by drilling, tapping and inserting threaded rod that was then filled to match the remaining teeth on said gear. This does not seem to have an overall negative effect on the operation of the lathe. Beyond this and the photos I have attached, I believe it to be a Seneca Falls Star No 5 lathe from the early 1900's. I plan to strip it down and restore it to it's original glory, as much as possible. In the process I hope to learn to use a metal lathe but also want to fabricate a steady rest to use it as a wood lathe, as that is my primary interest. If anyone has any information please let me know.
