Working four months in a patternshop provide me with a sense of "direction" for my tool purchases at an early age. One of the machines that I truly fell in love with was the radial drill press and it became a primary item in my quest to fill a shop.
This unit features 16 speeds, 160 rpm to 8300 rpm, and a 4.75 inch stroke. The head tilts in both directions and the throat offers a 31" reach at the furthest extension. Walker Turner later offered heads with a 6" stroke and Rockwell continued this sizing, even after the acquisition and revamping of this model. The newer heads will fit this drill and I passed up a nearly-new Rockwell head about 15 years ago. (Still regretting it, too)
This machine was purchased from Cook Machinery in Sicklerville, NJ in 1983 or 1984, and I paid $325 for it. Other than paint, the only thing I did to it was to pop on a single phase motor and add a switch and a quill-lock.
