I bought this for $35 from a fellow on my local Craigslist who had also bought it from a Craigslist posting some years before. He used it for one job then just let it sit in his garage. The cover is fiberglass. I sprayed the outside cover with the usual gray Rustoleum. The casting, which was rough from the factory, wasn't really rusty so I just left it as I found it. On the inside of the cover is stamped in ink the date of manufacture, in this case Jan 28, 1971. The serial number plate is riveted to the main casting and lies behind the upper wheel. This machine had not been abused too much, so disassembly and repair was quite simple. I cleaned (with Gum Cutter) and then regreased both wheel bearings with regular automotive (red) wheel bearing grease. The lower wheel drive pulley needed replacement (5" diameter). I have a pair of Cool Blocks on order, but the original steel blocks were still there. The machine allows for a maximum 71.75" blade, max width of 0.5", and the saw yields a max depth of cut of 6" under the guide. Search the OWWM "Shop" forum for info on how to braze your own custom length blades. It's not difficult. That said, I have installed stock Sears 70.5" blades in this saw without difficulty. This machine came on a factory stand with a 1/2 HP 1725 RPM motor, the original one, I believe. It will be more than adequate for the scrollwork and light resawing that I intend to do with this saw. The only major improvement I have to make to this saw is to mount it on a dolly. What a find!
