Comments:
I bought this lathe from a guy who got it from his father, who did a lot of spindle turning. The guy I bought it from never really used it over the course of 20+ years, and it had what I believe to be the same walnut dust on it that his father made.
Everything was pretty stiff from sitting around. I did a teardown of the headstock, cleaned and relubed the bearings. This is described in a thread on the forum. I've been meaning to redo the paint and reconfigure the base a little, but still haven't gotten around to it.
This lathe came with a remarkably complete set of accessories, from what I can see from the 1940 Walker-Turner catalog on the mothership, including: 3" faceplate, 6" faceplate, 6" faceplate with 4 adjustable jaws, 6" toolrest, 12" toolrest, and spindle steady. Later I picked up a 6" faceplate with left hand thread that goes on the outboard side of headstock.
