I bought this machine at the 9-9-08 auction of Nichols and Stone in Gardner Mass. This machine is by far the heaviest machine I have moved, at 4000lbs. It appears to be in very good condition and will probably not be totally torn down. Just a cleaning, lubrication and once over should be all thats needed to make this one run. It is a double sided sander that Nichols and Stone only used one side of. The motor is 5hp, 1200rpm with a huge 284 frame size. After talking to Central Machinery, I was told the sander was shipped on 8-14-1950 and sold to the BM Root Co. in York, PA. They may have been the dealer who sold it to Nichols and Stone, but I am not sure. There was an unbelievable amount of sawdust packed in and around the oscillating mechanism, probably over 100lbs. It was jammed under the moving parts so badly a screwdriver had to chip away at it.
