This jointer was purchased brand new in 1955 along with a new Unisaw by a contractor in Detroit. I recently purchased it from the grand son of the original owner who now operates the very same company. The guy I purchased it from did a fairly decent job restoring it. This included having the 60" bed reground. He painted it with Sherwin Williams Machinery Gray from a spray can.
He had a little fork lift on his end to load it with. I left it in my tuck over night so I could get a mobile base to set it in. It's heavy man! The next day I used a chain fault hooked to a beam in my garage to lift it out of the truck and on to the new base.
The discharge chute end of the cast stand had the lower part of the casting missing. In its place was a piece of molded paint piece of wood. Luckily I had the piece as spare in my junk pile. I would have shunned a bug bomb paint job before but I painted this piece today with some left over paint he had given me and it matches great and it is installed in it's new home already.
